Menus

All menu commands available in the main menus are described below with keyboard shortcuts. Some commands are only available in certain modes. For example, the entire Draw menu is disabled in Run mode.

File Menu

The File menu contains options for opening, saving, and creating files; printing files; and Workspace options.

Creates a new file.

Opens a file saved in the standard file system.

Ctrl+O

Open Standard File for Edit…

Opens a file saved in the standard file system in Edit mode.

Open Blob File…

Opens a file saved on the BLOB service.

Ctrl+B

Open Blob File for Edit…

Opens a file saved on the BLOB service in Edit mode.

Ctrl+Shift+B

Close

Closes a file.

Save

Saves a file.

Ctrl+S

Save As…

Saves a file to a new location or name.

Workspace

Open Workspace

Opens a workspace (set of CygNet Studio screens).

Ctrl+W

Save Workspace

Saves the workspace.

Ctrl+Shift+W

Save Workspace As

Save the workspace to a new location or name.

Save All

Save all screens in the workspace.

Ctrl+Shift+S

Close Workspace

Close the workspace.

Workspace Properties

View the properties for the open workspace.

Print…

Opens the Print dialog box.

Ctrl+P

Print Preview

Shows a print preview.

Print Setup…

Opens the Print Setup dialog box.

Properties

Opens the File Properties dialog box for the active file, which displays the following fields:

  • File Path - The Standard or Blob file path from which the file was opened.
  • File Serialization Version - Indicates the CygNet Release with which this file is compatible.

Note: The File Properties is also accessible on the View Configuration dialog box (see Configuration on the standard Context Menu for TheView.)

  

(Recent Files)

A list of the four most recent files opened.

Exit

Closes CygNet Studio.

Edit Menu

The Edit menu contains options for copying and pasting objects. Be aware that when you copy and paste an object, it is pasted in the exact location as the source. As such, you may want to copy the object, move the original, and then paste the copy to ensure that a copy is not pasted on top of the original. When you paste an object on to TheView, all of the properties of the copy are the same as the original except the ObjectCode.

Undo

Undo the previous action. In Studio you can "undo" the last 11 actions.

Ctrl+Z

Redo

Redo the previously undone action.

Ctrl+Y

Cut

Remove a selection and put it on the clipboard.

Ctrl+X

Copy

Put a selection on the clipboard without removing it.

Ctrl+C

Paste

Insert an object from the clipboard into the current context.

Ctrl+V

Delete

Remove the selection from the context.

Delete

Select All

Select all objects.

Ctrl+A

Select All Similar

Select all objects of the same object type.

Ctrl+Shift+A

Apply Substitutions…

Specify the .xml substitution file to apply to make bulk changes to the screen.

View Menu

The View menu contains options for showing toolbars, ruler bars, snap points, switching modes, Full Screen mode, the Default Trend, and the Catalog.

Switch to Run/Edit mode

In Run mode, switches to Edit mode. In Edit mode, switches to Run mode.

Ctrl+E

Show/Hide Script Editor

Shows or hides the script editor.

Ctrl+T

Show Preview

Opens a preview window of the current view.

F5

Full Screen

Shows the View in full screen in edit or Run mode.

F11

View Trend

In Run mode, shows the View’s default trend in a new window.

Layout Menu

The Layout menu contains options for aligning, spacing, and sizing objects. It also has a Grid Settings option. This option provides a method for determining if objects snap to the grid, the grid spacing (in pixels), and guidelines (margins). To select multiple objects see Selecting Multiple Objects.

Aligns selected objects on the left.

Aligns selected objects on the right.

Vert. Center

Aligns the midpoints of the selected objects on the vertical axis.

Horz. Center

Aligns the midpoints of the selected objects on the horizontal axis.

Shift+F9

Space Evenly

Across

Evenly spaces selected objects on the horizontal axis.

Ctrl+Right Arrow

Down

Evenly spaces selected objects on the vertical axis.

Alt+Up Arrow

Center in View

Vertical

Vertically aligns the midpoint of the selected objects with the midpoint of the View.

Ctrl+F9

Horizontal

Horizontally aligns the midpoint of the selected objects with the midpoint of the View.

Ctrl+Shift+F9

Make Same Size

Width

Sets all selected object widths to the width of the dominant object in the selection.

Height

Sets all selected object heights to the height of the dominant object in the selection.

Both

Sets all selected object widths and heights to the width and height of the dominant object in the selection.

Displays objects sheet.

Layers…

Displays layers sheet.

Properties…

Toggles visibility of the property sheet.

Grid Settings…

Displays the Grid Settings dialog box.

Checks for name duplicates.

Draw Menu

The Draw menu contains options to order objects on TheView, to zoom, group, and rotate. For open-ended polyline objects you can edit the points that compose the object using the Contour option.

Brings an object to the front of overlapping objects.

Sends an object to the back of overlapping objects.

Bring Forward

Brings an object forward in the object order.

Zoom

Zoom In

Magnifies the screen (affects viewing only, not actual screen size).

Zoom Out

Zooms out of the screen (affects viewing only, not actual screen size).

Zoom 1:1

Shows the screen at the regular size.

Group

Groups selected objects.

Rotate

Free Rotate

Enables free rotation handles around the selected object.

Unrotate

Undoes the previous rotation.

Rotate Right

Rotates the selected object 90 degrees clockwise.

Rotate Left

Rotates the selected object 90 degrees counter-clockwise.

Contour

Edit Points

Enables editing of points on a selected points-based object (such as a polyline control).

Opens or closes a points-based object.

Window Menu

The Window menu contains options for arranging TheViews. It also shows the Title of each open view.

Cascade

Shows all open screens in an overlapping cascade.

Tile

Tiles all open screens evenly across the screen.

Arrange Icons

Aligns minimized screen icons along the bottom of the screen.

(Currently open screens)

A numbered list of the currently opened files by Title. Select a screen name to bring it to the front.

Help Menu

The Help menu contains options to link to application help and application version  information.

Option Description Shortcut

Help

Displays a help window.

F1

About CygNet Studio

Displays an About CygNet Studio Application dialog box to view application information.

Available information includes the following:

  • The application name, version, and release date
  • Copyright information
  • The CygNet Software website address, including a hyperlink to the website
  • The log file location, including a hyperlink to the log file
  • The location of the application's file executable

In addition to information about the application, the About box includes the following buttons:

  • Client Settings — opens the Client Settings dialog box to view and modify client log settings for the application on an ad hoc basis. See Client Log Settings in the Logging section for more information.
  • Diagnostics — access the following options for additional analysis from the drop-down menu:
  • Loaded Modules — use this option to view and search file information for modules loaded in your system. Double-click any result row to view properties for that module. See Loaded Modules for more information.
  • Gather Logs — accesses the Windows file directory where the open log files are located. Double-click to select and view an application log file.
  • User Local Crash Dumps — Local crash dumps are not enabled. See Generating Crash Dumps for more information.
  • Close — click to close the About box.
