CygNet Software contains 23 services that perform interrelated functions.
CygNet services are categorized into five basic operational service types.
See Data Flow for a diagram illustrating the relationships between these various CygNet services.
Each service has one primary function, although the database services also include services that perform additional service type functions. Keep this in mind as you are learning to use the system. The following example describes this dual classification.
Example
The Point Service is the point database. It contains all of the properties of a point — its alarm setpoints, history reporting options, identifiers, description, etc. When a Current Value Service returns a value for a point that exceeds the point’s alarm setpoint, the alarm is sent to the Common Alarm Service. The Common Alarm Service is the repository for alarms. If you want to change the alarm setpoint, you do so in the Point Service since alarm setpoints are properties of the point, even though the actual alarm resides in the Common Alarm Service.
If necessary, multiple instances of a service type can be used. For example, the system is installed with two Event Logging Services: the ELS and the ELSALM. The ELS is used to log service, operational, and external events. The ELSALM is used to log alarm and notification history.
CygNet Software supports a 64-bit Universal Interface Service (UIS) and 64-bit EIE drivers, and a 64-bit Value History Service (VHS). EIEs consist of a driver (Uis*64.dll), an editor (CxDds*Editors.dll), and in the case of Remote Device EIEs, one or more Device Template Files (DTFs). The drivers and DTFs reside on the host machine and are used by the UIS; the editors reside on client PCs and are used by CygNet client applications such as CygNet Explorer and CygNet Studio/Vision. The 64-bit drivers must be used with the 64-bit UIS. See 64-bit Device Drivers for more information about the drivers.
A CygNet SCADA Services (64-bit) Setup application, CygNetSCADAServicesSetup64.exe, is available to install the services, drivers, and other required files. See the 64-bit Installation Guide for installation instructions.
CygNet Software also supports some 64-bit utilities. See 64-bit Utilities for more information.
