Host Transfer Procedure

This topic outlines the steps for transferring a host from one server to another. Be sure that the new server meets CygNet Software operating system and hardware specifications. See thepdf iconCygNet v9.8 System Requirements for more information.

For more information, see the following subsections below:

Transfer Assumptions

Before You Transfer

Record the following information for the old server prior to making any changes.

Info

IP address of old server

Services installation path (for example, C:\CygNet\Services)

CygNet Version (for example, v9.8)

Remote Device Communication Ports

Notification Communication Ports

Dialogic Board Installed (Yes/No)

CygNet Web (Yes/No) Note: The CygNet Web application has reached its End of Life with the release of CygNet v9.8.

OPC Server connected to OPCIS (Name)

Transfer Steps

If the CygNet services are running as Microsoft Windows services, and they use a logon account other than the Local System, specify the logon account and password on the new server. Set up services to use a domain account rather than the Local System account.

Part 1: Install the Services

  1. Close all CygNet applications and stop the services.
  2. Exit CygNet Host Manager. (Don't just close it. Exit it.)
  3. Use the CygNet Service Setup program on your CygNet CD to install the services on the new server. Once the setup program completes click No to the reboot prompt so that files can be copied before the reboot.
  4. Edit the CHostMgr.exe shortcut in the Startup group on the Start menu and remove the -R parameter so that services do not automatically start on a reboot.
  5. Open CHostManager.exe, click Edit Config, and set the startup type to Manual.
  6. Copy your CygNet folder from the old server to the new server. (Copy so that you have a backup).
  7. Perform the following as needed and then register the copied files on the new server:
  8. If the installation path is different on the new server than it was for the old, edit the RSM configuration file so that the parameter for RSM_BASE_DIR specifies the correct path.
  9. Shut down the old server and take it off the network.

Part 2: Transfer Hardware

If your system uses comm port devices (radios, modems) for remote device communication or notifications and you do not install the devices on the same ports on the new server as the old server you will have to edit communication devices in the DDS and the GNS configuration file.

  1. If applicable, remove the Dialogic board from the old server and install it on the new server.
  2. If applicable, remove comm devices from the old server and install them on the new server.

Part 3: Configure New Server

  1. Assign the new server the old server's IP address.
  2. Reboot the new server.
  3. Register the .ocx and .dll files in the CygNet\Support folder on the new server.
  4. If using the GNS for voice notifications:
  1. Install the Dialogic board drivers and use the Dialogic configuration manager to setup the Dialogic service startup type. Be aware that the Dialogic software installation may require that you are logged in as the server administrator.
  2. If applicable, install third-party voices used for notifications.
  3. Install the MSSAPI.
  1. Edit the GNS configuration file to include new comm port information.
  2. Start the CygNet services.
  3. If applicable, edit DDS communication devices to reflect new communication port information.

OPC Server and OPC Interface Service (OPCIS)

  1. Stop the OPCIS.
  2. Install the OPC Server on the new server. If the OPC server runs on a different server than the CygNet host, at a minimum, install the .dll of the OPC server.
  3. Edit the OPCIS configuration file so that the parameter for OPC_MACHINE_NAME specifies the correct server name.
  4. Start the OPCIS.
