OPC Core Components

Important: The following procedures explain how to install a new OPC EIE to an existing CygNet system that does not already include the EIE. This is not the same thing as adding a remote device instance to a Device Definition Service (DDS).

The OPC EIE, OPC Lufkin EIE, OPC Weatheford EIE remote devices, and the OPC Comm EIE communication device may require the OpcFoundation OPC Core Components when installing the EIE for the first time. This requirement is met by the CygNet Services installers for first-time setup using the CygNetSCADAServicesSetup wizard. However, you might find the need to install an OPC EIE that post-dates your initial CygNet installation. For upgraded CygNet hosts, OPC Core Components Redistributable (x86).msi and OPC Core Components Redistributable (x64).msi are included in the CygNet product image.

Installing a 32-bit OPC EIE

Follow these steps to install a new 32-bit OPC EIE to a preexisting CygNet system:

Install a UIS Driver and EIE Editor for a 32-bit OPC EIE

Note: The following instructions can be followed for both the OPC Comm EIE Communication Device and OPC EIE Remote Devices, except for step 4, which applies only to the OPC EIE Remote Devices.

1. Install the Driver

The following steps explain how to install the driver component of the OPC EIE.

Important: The EIE might require support files in addition to those mentioned below. Contact CygNet Support for more information.

  1. Copy the new Uis[EIEName]Driver.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support folder on your host server.
  2. Right-click the .dll.
  3. Click Open with… > Choose default program… > Browse.
  4. Open the Windows\SysWOW64 folder. (Open the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system.) Click here for information about Windows system folders
  5. Double-click regsvr32.exe.
  6. Note: Optionally, use the Command Prompt to invoke regsvr32.exe and register the driver file.

The driver DLL is now installed and registered.

2. Install the Editor

The following steps explain how to install the editor component of the OPC EIE.

Important: The EIE might require support files in addition to those mentioned below. Contact CygNet Support for more information.

  1. Copy the new CxDds[EIEName] Editors.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support folder on your host server.
  2. Right-click the .dll.
  3. Click Open with… > Choose default program… > Browse.
  4. Open the Windows\SysWOW64 folder. (Open the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system.) Click here for information about Windows system folders
  5. Double-click regsvr32.exe.
  6. Open CygNet Explorer.
  7. Click APPS (Application Blob Service) in the service hierarchy.
  8. Right-click in the white space of the APPS pane, then click New.
  9. Select SUPPORT from the combo box.
  10. Open the CygNet\Support folder.
  11. Select the CxDds[EIEName] Editors.dll, then click Upload.
  12. Return to CygNet Explorer.
  13. Right-click in the white space of your APPS pane, then click New.
  14. Select SUPPORT from the list box.
  15. Open the CygNet\Support folder.
  16. Select CxDds[EIEName] Editors.rsp, then click Upload. The .rsp lists all required files for the EIE editor.
  17. Return to CygNet Explorer.
  18. Go to the APPS pane and highlight CxDdsEditors.rsq.
  19. Right-click on CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Download File….
  20. Select a download location, then click OK.
  21. Open the CxDdsEditors.rsq file and add a line that includes the name of the .rsp file for the new editor as in the example below:

[SUPPORT]..\SUPPORT\CxDds[EIEName] Editors.rsp

  1. Return to CygNet Explorer.
  2. Right-click in the white space of the APPS pane, then click New.
  3. Select SUPPORT from the combo box.
  4. Go to the folder where you downloaded and edited the .rsq.
  5. Select the edited CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Upload.
  6. To update the timestamp of all .rsp and .rsq files in APPS, go to the CygNet\Utilities folder.
  7. Double-click TouchBSS.exe.
  8. Click the Browse button to select the correct SITE.APPS.
  9. Type RSP in the Blob Type field, then click OK.
  10. When the .rsp touch is complete, type RSQ in the Blob Type field, then click OK.
  11. Return to CygNet Explorer and click File > Exit to close CygNet Explorer.
  12. Reopen CygNet Explorer by double-clicking its shortcut on your desktop. Doing so performs version management.

The editor is now installed and version managed.

3. Install the OPC Core Components

  1. Open CygNet Host Manager and stop all services on the host.
  2. Browse to the OPC Core Components Redistributable (x86).msi in the source location.
  3. Right-click the file and select Install.
  4. Follow the steps to install the OPC Core Components.
  5. When the installation has finished, return to CygNet Host Manager and restart all services.

4. Install the Device Template File (Remote Devices Only)

5. Add the EIE to the Editor

To complete the installation process, confirm the new EIE s available to your DDS, then add the new EIE to a device list in the device editor.

  1. Using CygNet Explorer, open the Device Definition Service (DDS).
  2. Click the appropriate device type page (Remote Devices or Comm Devices).
  3. Right-click in the white space of your DDS pane, then click New <device type>.
  4. Locate the new EIE in the Select a Device Type… list.
  5. Double-click the highlighted device and click OK.

The new EIE is now fully installed and ready for configuration and implementation.

Installing a 64-bit OPC EIE

Follow these steps to install a new 64-bit OPC EIE to a preexisting CygNet system:

  1. Create a CygNet\Support64 folder on your host server.
  2. Copy the new Uis[EIEName]Driver64.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support64 folder.
  3. Right-click the .dll.
  4. Click Open with… > Choose default program... > Browse.
  5. Open the Windows\System32 folder. Click here for information about Windows system folders
  6. Double-click regsvr32.exe.
  7. Note: Optionally, use the Command Prompt to invoke regsvr32.exe and register the driver file.

The driver DLL is now installed and registered.

2. Install the Editor

The following steps explain how to install the editor component of the OPC EIE. Note that only the driver portion of the EIE is 64-bit; the associated editor (CxDds[EIEName]Editors.dll) is not 64-bit.

  1. Copy the new CxDds[EIEName] Editors.dll from the source location to the CygNet\Support folder on your host server.
  2. Right-click the .dll.
  3. Click Open with… > Choose default program... > Browse.
  4. Open the Windows\SysWOW64 folder. (Open the Windows\System32 folder on a 32-bit operating system.) Click here for information about Windows system folders
  5. Double-click regsvr32.exe.
  6. Open CygNet Explorer.

  16. Select CxDds[EIEName] Editors.rsp, then click Upload. The .rsp lists all required files for the EIE editor.
  17. Return to CygNet Explorer.
  18. Go to the APPS pane and highlight CxDdsEditors.rsq.
  19. Right-click on CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Download File….
  20. Select a download location, then click OK.
  21. Open the CxDdsEditors.rsq file and add a line that includes the name of the .rsp file for the new editor:

[SUPPORT]..\SUPPORT\CxDds[EIEName] Editors.rsp

  1. Return to CygNet Explorer.
  2. Right-click in the white space of the APPS pane, then click New.
  3. Select SUPPORT from the combo box.
  4. Go to the folder where you downloaded and edited the .rsq.
  5. Select the edited CxDdsEditors.rsq, then click Upload.
  6. To update the timestamp of all .rsp and .rsq files in APPS, go to the CygNet\Utilities folder.
  7. Double-click TouchBSS.exe.

3. Install the OPC Core Components

  4. Follow the steps to install the OPC Core Components.
  5. When the installation has finished, return to CygNet Host Manager and restart all services.

4. Install the Device Template File (Remote Devices Only)

5. Add the EIE to the Editor

To complete the installation process, confirm the new 64-bit EIE is available to your DDS, then add the new EIE to a device list in the device editor.

  1. Using CygNet Explorer, open the Device Definition Service (DDS).
  2. Click the appropriate device type page (Remote Devices or Comm Devices).
  3. Right-click in the white space of the DDS pane, then click New <device type>.
  4. Locate the new 64-bit EIE in the Select a Device Type… list.
  5. Double-click the highlighted device and click OK.

The new EIE is now fully installed and ready for configuration and implementation.
