Screen Pane

On the Canvas toolbar, click Create new screen (Create a new screen (Ctrl+N)) or Open existing screen (Open an existing screen (Ctrl+O)) to open a screen in the primary screen creation pane in your application window. The screen creation pane is supported by the other available panes: Toolbox, Properties, Events, Layers, and Output. Several screens can be open and in various states of editing simultaneously.

Use the Screen pane to design and fine-tune functionality of your screens while you are in the process of creating or editing them. The pane provides a "canvas" for your current screen development work.

Choosing How to View the Screen Pane

In the Screen pane title bar, you can select how to display the pane by default (whether to float, dock, tab, or hide it), pin the pane in place, or close the pane. Unpinning (or hiding) a pane when not in use gains extra space for viewing your current screen or another open pane. Closing a pane can also occur from the pane title bar. See Customizing the Workspace for more information.

Screen Views

The Screen pane has three views, accessible from tabs at the bottom of the pane:

Design View

Design tab The Design view of the Screen pane contains a graphic environment where you can create or edit screen content. In this environment you can place and customize each element in your screen grid and make decisions about the objects to include in the screen, their specific properties and functionality, and their relationships to one another. Access the support panes to easily add and customize the control objects placed in your design view. The Design view is the default view when you open a Canvas screen or object.

Script View

Script tab The Script view of the Screen pane contains a scripting environment where you can create or edit screen content. In this environment you can write script, add and remove references, and introduce custom elements to further refine the objects in your screens. Supported script languages are C# and VB.NET. The Script view has a context menu and a toolbar, which contains options to validate script and manage assemblies for the currently selected screen.

Controls View

Controls tab The Controls view of the Screen pane contains a list of all Canvas controls on your screen or object grouped by Type and displaying a subset of shared properties. You can edit several of these properties on this view and the changes will be reflected in the Properties pane. You can also select multiple controls in the Controls view and edit common properties at the same time.

Note: Use Ctrl+T to toggle between Design view and Script view in the Screen pane. If scripting is not yet enabled, click Enable scripting for this screen to open the Script view.
